The Challenge

Large philanthropic gifts to academic medicine draw attention, but announcements of new hospitals and medical centers are often covered as routine expansion stories. When the Dell family prepared to announce a $1 billion investment in a new academic medical center, UT Austin worried that national media would report it as another donation and building project, with coverage fading after a single news cycle. The announcement needed to set the project apart and give reporters a reason to keep covering it.

The Goal

Turning the announcement into a defining national narrative required a clear, differentiated message. AM PR created that message by positioning UT Dell Medical Center as the first AI-native academic medical center in the U.S. The campaign aimed to secure broad national coverage on announcement day, establish first ownership of the AI-native concept, and extend the story beyond launch by positioning the medical center’s executives and clinical leaders as authorities on the future of healthcare delivery.

The Result

By aligning announcement timing, narrative framing, and targeted reporter outreach, AM PR helped the story break across more than 40 outlets within days. Key highlights included:

  • National launch coverage in the Associated Press, Bloomberg, CNBC, Forbes, The Washington Post, USA Today, and Fortune, along with statewide coverage in The Texas Tribune.
  • Immediate category ownership, with the AI-native framing appearing in nearly every major story from announcement day and separating the news from traditional hospital expansion announcements.
  • A thought leadership campaign in the weeks following the launch, built on reporter-specific angles about what it means to design and operate an AI-native hospital from the ground up rather than re-pitching the original news.
  • Continued reach in health, policy, and technology outlets including STAT News, Healthcare Brew, Axios, HealthLeaders, and Becker’s Healthcare, keeping UT Dell Medical Center at the center of a sustained national conversation.
